For some reason, publishers are of the view that the only kinds of stories teenagers want to read are either fantasy or gritty social realism, stories about self-harming, horrible parenting, teenage pregnancy or nursing a sister with a terminal illness.

I think there is room for some optimistic, cheerful stories without magic.

About the author

Anthony Clive is my pen name.

I was for many years involved in the toy trade as a manufacturer of outdoor play equipment and know the love we all have for testing ourselves and our courage.

The stories in the Voravia series will appeal to that part of our nature. There is no magic. I have always felt that escaping danger by mounting a horse that flies, waving a special sword or reciting a magic mantra are forms of cheating. Young people need to learn that it is by their own efforts they will change matters for the better.

My hero and heroine are not without their faults but they have strong ideals, are loyal and brave.

Although the protaginists are teenagers the stories will appeal to anyone who likes a traditional adventure story, something publishers are not offering at the moment.
